Since we have six typical personality types, not including the triune disintegrated and integrated types, there are an infinite number of ways they can interact. Typically, however, the dominant brain determines the interaction types. Monkey dominants tend to feel much more comfortable with other Monkey dominants. Likewise with Lizard dominants and Angel dominants. Worse, they tend not to interact well with the other brains. That is, Lizard dominants detest Monkey dominants and often don’t even recognize Angel dominants. Monkey dominants scorn Lizard dominants and ignore Angel dominants. And Angel dominants have no clue why Lizard and Monkey dominants do anything the way they do.
In Transactional Analysis, the Lizard brain correlates with the Parent, while the Monkey brain correlates with the Child, and the Angel brain correlates with the Adult. In Freudian psychology, the Lizard brain correlates with the id, the Monkey brain with the ego, and the Angel brain with the super-ego. I mention this only so readers with familiarity with other forms of psychology can understand in part where I am going with this theoretical framework.
We are a very young species, well under a million years old in our current form, and less than 10,000 years old in any form of civilization. Most men are Monkey-driven Lizard dominants, largely as a result of our genetic heritage as primates. Most women are Lizard-driven Monkey dominants for the same reason. Thus, the focus of a large majority of men is the gathering and management of territory containing resources and mates, with no interest in anything beyond survival at the most basic of levels. The women focus exclusively on maintaining family ties so they can rear their children with some hope of success. Think of the stone-age tribes in the deepest Amazon or the jungles of Africa, or the aboriginals of Australia. Their view of reality is very tightly constrained, and they tend to be hostile toward anyone outside their immediate family or tribe. In fact, very few people out of the almost 7 billion of us now living could even be called self-aware. Rather, the vast majority of us still see ourselves primarily as nexi within networks of relatives, tribes, and clans, not as individuals responsible for our own choices and actions. That requires an active Angel brain which recognizes it is one of three brains, all necessary for survival. Only a Triune Integrated is likely to be truly self-aware, but recognizing that such a state is possible, to say nothing of desirable, may be as simple as being told so by someone trusted, then applying that knowledge to self-examination to see how it makes sense of what seemed senseless before. Once you begin to understand who you really are, and how you really work, you’re well on your way to growing self-aware and responsible.
Our history is largely one of the development of the Angel brain, first as an underlying motivation driving Lizard and Monkey dominant individuals, and then in time as a dominant brain in its own right. Recall that Angel’s primary characteristic is curiosity. In the execution of tasks related to satisfying that curiosity, the Angel dominant develops a worldview that is usually at odds with the worldviews of Lizard and Monkey, and one that often has little connection to reality, either immediate or as a whole. Because Angel dominants have no clue about how Lizard and Monkey see reality, they often end up as martyrs, burnt at the stake for heresy (literally or figuratively), especially if they push too hard to convince the Lizards and Monkeys of the validity of their philosophical constructs.
These days, we’re seeing a philosophical war between Monkey driven Angel dominants (and many Angel driven Monkey dominants) holding a socialist/communist worldview and Lizard driven Angel dominants (along with the Angel driven Lizard dominants) holding a worldview that might best be called Anarcho Capitalism. It’s really too bad we can’t all realize how ridiculous this ‘war’ is and grow up to become Triune Integrateds. To be honest, however, given the number of people living today who truly lack self-awareness, it doesn’t seem likely that we will grow up as a species. There’s not enough time. But that may not be our reason for existence at this level, given that the only choice any of us has is whether to accept or deny reality and our places in it with every instant of thought, every breath we take, every word we say, and every action we take.
Next, how the Lizard, Monkey, and Angel brains deal with sexuality.
